8:58 am	Farewell, my friends. That's a wrap.... Back in 1993, my friend Jean Carrieres asked me to edit an issue of Protoculture Addicts and three modules for the Night's Edge line of Cyberpunk. A year later, I wrote my first gaming product for them, entitled Playgrounds, followed by Sub-Attica. Since that time, I've written or co-written close to 60 RPG books, edited 30 books as developer for Guardians Of Order and White Wolf, finished 5 gaming novels, written for over 12 videogames and helped launch two game lines (Providence and Orpheus). This last Sunday, I completed the art notes for Supernaturals for Mutants & Masterminds, which marks my last roleplaying book for the paper & pen industry. Renegade Wizards for Dragonlance was also my last tie-in work in regards to novels. Part of me feels nervous about closing these doors, because they're comfortable and I could always escape to them when I needed money or acclaim. And while the experiences were wonderful, as were the people I came to know as friends, my bliss no longer lies in the arms of those industries. I need to write about the things that matter to me and I need to step away from the safety net. It's not enough just to be published. I want to cast my lines into deeper oceans. So, I take the plunge and I bite down on my vanity and on my fears. This is my farewell to the industry I still love and support. Thank you for all these years. But it's time I strand myself from comfort and I see if I have what it takes to be a novelist. Wish me luck. (46 Comments |Comment on this)
